Soccer Recap: Sumner Comes Up Short

Sumner entered their contest against Alonso on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Stingrays took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ravens. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Sumner of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.

Sumner's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Alonso, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2-3 record this season.

Sumner and Alonso should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Stingrays (ranked 82nd) will meet Gaither (ranked 276th) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Alonso will take on Wharton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (44 vs. 125).
