Softball Recap: West Ranch Gets the Win

West Ranch proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Castaic Coyotes 8-6. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Coyotes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

GRETCHEN ROEN spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, MALAYA ORDONA and PAYTON BORLAND did most of the damage at the plate: ORDONA scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-1, while BORLAND scored two runs while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of ISABELLA SWANSON, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

West Ranch's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Castaic, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.

Coming up, West Ranch will take on Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Castaic, they will face off against Golden Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Coyotes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
