Softball Game Preview: Antonian Prep Apaches vs. Incarnate Word Shamrocks

Antonian Prep has gone 9-1 against Incarnate Word recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Apaches will face off against the Shamrocks at 4:30 p.m. Antonian Prep is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 12 games.

Antonian Prep's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Savio 23-0. Considering the Apaches have won 14 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Victoria Gass looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isabella Garza was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Devynn Barron was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Antonian Prep hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Incarnate Word fell victim to Antonian Prep and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They came up short against the Apaches, falling 15-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Shamrocks in their meetings with the Apaches: they've now lost eight in a row.

Antonian Prep's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Incarnate Word, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.

Everything went Antonian Prep's way against Incarnate Word in their previous matchup last Friday, as Antonian Prep made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
