Baseball Recap: Marcellus Victorious

Marcellus won the last time they faced Bangor and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wildcats came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Seth Barrera made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Marcellus is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Barrera was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Cale Hackenberg was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Marcellus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't).

Marcellus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bangor only posted a batting average of .222.

The victory got Marcellus back to even at 7-7. As for Bangor, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcellus will welcome Cassopolis at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rangers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Bangor, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Central at 9:00 a.m.
