Baseball Recap: West Bend West Triumphs

West Bend West hadn't done well against Whitefish Bay recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Spartans skirted past the Blue Dukes 2-1. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.

Brody Renk tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, West Bend West secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Landon Wertz, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

The win made it two in a row for West Bend West and bumps their season record up to 13-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Whitefish Bay, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 16-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Bend West will face off against Kewaskum at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Indians will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Whitefish Bay, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Slinger at 1:00 p.m.
