Softball Recap: Nicholas County Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Nicholas County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Carter Comets, sneaking past 13-12. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Bluejackets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Sidney Sexton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched nine innings while giving up five earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two triples, and one double. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nicholas County got a massive performance out of Peyton Boone, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three hits gave Boone a new career-high. Mady Adams was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Nicholas County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Nicholas County's win bumped their record up to 3-10. As for West Carter, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Looking ahead, Nicholas County will head out to take on Harrison County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Thorobreds/Fillies will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Bluejackets surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Carter, they will face off against Mason County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
