Baseball Preview: Weedsport Wolverines vs. Central Rebels

The Weedsport Wolverines will venture away from home to face off against the Central Rebels at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weedsport is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Weedsport will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Lafayette on Monday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Lancers. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

In other batting news, Nico Giacolone was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI. Weedsport is 2-1 when Giacolone posts three or more RBI, but 5-6 otherwise. Hayden Sevigny also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Central let Port Byron stack five runs on them in the fifth inning on Monday but luckily Central prevailed anyway. The Rebels skirted past the Panthers 9-8. While the Rebels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 0-3), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

The win made it two in a row for Central and bumps their season record up to 6-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Weedsport, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
