Baseball Recap: Pendleton Heights Comes Up Short

Pendleton Heights had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 11-4 to make it four. They fell just short of the Greenfield-Central Cougars by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Arabians of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Colton Frank put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Ty Frakes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jackson Grile, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

As for Greenfield-Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

Like Pendleton Heights, Greenfield-Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Gavin Markus. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Markus a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Markus wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Kidd, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

While Pendleton Heights had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
