Baseball Recap: Superior Takes a Loss

Superior was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mogollon Mustangs. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Joel Romero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Ryland Duarte was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Superior is 4-2 when Duarte posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Noah Jimenez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Superior's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Mogollon, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Mustangs beat Superior by a score of 10-5 later that day.
