Basketball Recap: Ridgeway Roadrunners vs. Melrose Golden Wildcats
The Ridgeway Roadrunners had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.9 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They strolled past Melrose with points to spare, taking the game 79-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ridgeway had a senior duo take command as Marlon Mcshane scored 24 points along with three steals and Brian Carter Jr. scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carter Jr. has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kavious Johnson Jr., who scored six points along with 14 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Melrose saw an underclassman step up: Taveon Stitmon went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 1 assist. Devin Sanders Jr was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds.
Ridgeway is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Melrose, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7.
Ridgeway will head out on the road to take on the Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Power Center Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Thursday. As for Melrose, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Hamilton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully the Golden Wildcats like a good challenge.
