Volleyball Recap: Southampton Academy Comes Up Short

If Southampton Academy was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Banner Christian on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Raiders took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers on Wednesday. The Raiders have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:three sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-21, 26-24, 27-25.

Bryce Holland paced Southampton Academy's offense, picking up 13 kills. Holland got some help from Ali Turner and her 24 assists. Finally, Jenna Brantley kept Southampton Academy's defense grounded, leading the team with seven blocks.

Isle of Wight Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jacy Jones, who had 22 digs and two aces. What's more, Jones posted three kills, the most she's had over her last four contests. Camryn Williams was another key player, getting ten digs and three aces.

Southampton Academy now has a losing record of 7-8-1. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they moved to 5-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, Southampton Academy and Isle of Wight Academy will both be playing Brunswick Academy the next time they take the court. The Raiders will host the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Chargers will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
