Softball Recap: Lake Orion's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Lake Orion dropped their record down to 5-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Fenton Tigers, falling 9-3. The Dragons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 7-5.

As for Fenton, their win bumped their record up to 7-1-1. Considering they have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Fenton's part, Abby Golen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Golen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fenton got a massive performance out of Taryn Craven, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Craven has posted since back in May of 2024. Marlee Topij was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Lake Orion will take on Algonac at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Muskrats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Fenton, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-1 victory against Flushing on the 24th.
