Softball Recap: Norte Vista Braves vs. La Sierra Eagles

Norte Vista had lost eight straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-17-1 to make it nine. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the La Sierra Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 22-5 defeat on Tuesday.

Nicole Cline put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Cline was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other batting news, Angelina Mercado was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Grace Cervantes also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for La Sierra, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games.

On La Sierra's side, Anais Romero was excellent, getting a hit.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Norte Vista will challenge Jurupa Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The Braves are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for La Sierra, they will face off against Santiago at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
