Baseball Recap: Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Triumphs

Summit Charter Collegiate Academy took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Orosi, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears skirted past the Cardinals 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted against the Cardinals since April 5, 2018.

Mike Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Summit Charter Collegiate Academy is 3-0-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-9 otherwise. Gonzalez was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Stephen Mendez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Mendez a new career-high. Brandon Baldwin was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy and bumps their season record up to 3-9-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Orosi, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Charter Collegiate Academy will square off against Orange Cove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last six matches. As for Orosi, they will challenge Lindsay at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
