Baseball Game Preview: Penns Valley Area Rams vs. Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers

Penns Valley Area hasn't had much luck against Philipsburg-Osceola recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rams will look to defend their home field against the Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. Penns Valley Area has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Penns Valley Area is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 13-7 to Bald Eagle Area.

Meanwhile, Philipsburg-Osceola strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Clearfield as they made off with a 9-3 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Mountaineers have posted against the Bison since April 8, 2021.

Archer Baughman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Baughman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Lucas Peterson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Parker Lamb was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Philipsburg-Osceola's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Penns Valley Area, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
