Softball Recap: Millennium Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Millennium, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Higley Knights 13-12. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 9-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The team relied heavily on Ireland Melendez, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassie Garza, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Melendez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Millennium kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. Millennium is a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Millennium's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Higley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

Millennium will square off against San Luis at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Higley, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Higley has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
