Softball Game Preview: Port St. Lucie Jaguars vs. South Fork Bulldogs

Port St. Lucie is 0-7 against South Fork since February of 2015 but things could change on Monday. Port St. Lucie will face off against South Fork at 7:00 p.m. Port St. Lucie has given up an average of 16.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Port St. Lucie is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 24-20 win over Berean Christian on Friday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Jaguars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Mirelis Benito was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four runs, two triples, and one RBI. Those triples marked the first that she hit this season. Mia Torres was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-6.

Port St. Lucie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .561. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, South Fork narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Centennial 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

South Fork also got a great performance from Mackenzie Brown as she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rachel Kramer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Elliana Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

South Fork pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Port St. Lucie, their record is now 2-5-1.

Port St. Lucie suffered a grim 18-0 defeat to South Fork in their previous meeting back in February. Can Port St. Lucie avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
