Football Game Preview: Santa Rosa Academy Rangers vs. Heritage Patriots + Official Tickets

The Santa Rosa Academy Rangers will challenge the Heritage Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Santa Rosa Academy lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Trinity Classical Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Rangers were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Knights on Thursday. Considering the Rangers have won five contests by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Goode continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 186 yards and three scores while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 162 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes. Those 162 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Santa Rosa Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 227 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 227 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Heritage was not quite Perris' equal in the second half on Thursday. They lost to the Panthers on the road by a 48-34 margin.

Santa Rosa Academy will need to focus on slowing down Damian Calderon, one of several Heritage players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Calderon's longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards. Another passer making a difference was Elijah Sanchez, who threw for 291 yards and three TDs while picking up 12.1 yards per attempt.

Santa Rosa Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.4 points over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Santa Rosa Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
