Volleyball Recap: Tucumcari Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Esperanza Martinez and Alexa Aragon

Tucumcari was the 3-0 winner over Clayton when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rattlers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets on Saturday. The Rattlers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Tucumcari was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Clayton work for it, especially in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-16, 14-25, 25-22, 26-24.

Tucumcari's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexa Aragon, who had 16 digs, and Esperanza Martinez, who had 12 digs. Aragon is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played. Brooklynn Benavidez also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Tucumcari's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Clayton, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 7-10.

Coming up, Tucumcari will venture away from home to challenge Estancia at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clayton, they will welcome Raton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Yellowjackets surely won't give up without a fight.
