The Highlands Latin Highlanders are taking a road trip to square off against the Trimble County Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Highlands Latin has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Highlands Latin lost 13-2 to Atherton on Tuesday. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Highlands Latin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Hamilton (Luke), who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Hamilton (Luke)'s first of the season.
Trimble County never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Newport on Friday. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-1 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Raiders this season.
Jacoby Clark made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Trimble County is undefeated when Clark posts two or more runs, but 4-15 otherwise.
In other batting news, Dylan Penick was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Nolan Hunt, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Trimble County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newport only posted an OBP of .250.
Highlands Latin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Trimble County, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-15 record.
Trimble County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Highlands Latin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for Trimble County, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Highlands Latin's hitters?
Highlands Latin came out on top in a nail-biter against Trimble County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
