Baseball Recap: Grossmont Takes a Loss

Grossmont managed to slip by El Capitan the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Foothillers came up short against the Vaqueros on Wednesday, falling 16-7. The Foothillers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vaqueros earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Tyler Holmes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Grossmont is 2-1 when Holmes posts one or more home runs, but 7-12 otherwise. Johnny Warren also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Grossmont dropped their record down to 9-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for El Capitan, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Grossmont will welcome Helix at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Highlanders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Foothillers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for El Capitan, they are taking a road trip to face off against Valhalla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
