Baseball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

If Lakewood was riding high fresh off their 18-0 takedown of Compton last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Lakewood took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Woodrow Wilson Bruins on Friday. The Lancers have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Joe Dizon was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Dizon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. That run was his first of the season.

Dizon wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Zepeda, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Zepeda hit this season.

Lakewood's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Woodrow Wilson, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will face off against Torrance at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lakewood 3.5, Torrance 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will take on Cerritos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
