Softball Game Preview: Declo Hornets vs. Wendell Trojans

The Declo Hornets will square off against the Wendell Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Friday, Declo made easy work of Firth and carried off a 15-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Meanwhile, Wendell entered their tilt with Melba on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Mustangs.

Breanna Comstock made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Annabelle McRoberts, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Audra Bunn, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Wendell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Wendell pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Declo, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
