Volleyball Recap: Pleasant Valley's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Pleasant Valley faced Ankeny Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Spartans took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

Isabelle Kremer paced Pleasant Valley's offense, picking up eight kills. Kremer got some help from Mazie Sweers and her 12 assists. Sweers was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Ankeny Centennial can attribute much of their success to Mya Lei Butters, who had 12 digs and two assists. Lei Butters is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Pleasant Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 25-5. As for Ankeny Centennial, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 29-5.

Looking ahead, Pleasant Valley will face off against Assumption at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ankeny Centennial, they will square off against Southeast Polk at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
