Basketball Game Preview: Bellevue West Thunderbirds vs. Northwest Wolves

The Bellevue West Thunderbirds will take on the Northwest Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Bellevue West's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Bellevue West challenged Omaha Central on Friday. Bellevue West snuck past Omaha Central with a 65-60 victory. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Eagles are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bellevue West found their leader in sophomore Brayden Mauro, who went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mauro has scored all season. Carsen Schultz was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Meanwhile, Northwest had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.4 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They strolled past the Dragons with points to spare, taking the game 67-48.

Northwest has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Bellevue West, their win bumped their record up to 9-4.
