Softball Game Preview: Wood Wildcats vs. Vanden Vikings

Wood is on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Vanden is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wildcats will host the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wood 3.7, Vanden 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Monday, Wood earned a 4-1 victory over Bella Vista.

Meanwhile, Vanden got the win against Laguna Creek on Monday by a conclusive 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Isabella Cueva spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, DJ Evans was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was KJ Horton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Vanden hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 13 consecutive games.

Vanden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wood, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
