League recap: Cardinal Newman wins, gets boost in standings

Cardinal Newman was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from third to first in 3A District 7. The Crusaders defeated North Broward Prep 45-7 earlier in the week.

Cardinal Newman added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Eagles, 45-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

The Crusaders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Daniel Cole threw for 124 and 2 touchdowns and Travis Rudolph had 109 yards receiving. On the ground Erick Hardnett chipped in 81 yards. Andrew Owers helped Cardinal Newman's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 10 yards.

Cole put up the best numbers in passing as Cardinal Newman defeated North Broward Prep. Cole's favorite target this week was Rudolph, who caught 5 passes for 109 yards.

Cardinal Newman's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Cole has thrown for 1,352 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Rudolph has 43 catches for 885 yards.

Two highly praised recruits will be in the spotlight when American Heritage and the Crusaders meet this week. The Stallions features well-regarded freshman Alec Sinkfield while Cardinal Newman has Rudolph, a sought after senior.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when American Heritage takes on the Crusaders. At the moment, Stacy Sizemore's team is in fourth, while Cardinal Newman is in first.

The Crusaders took down Rex Nottage's team 45-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cole in the win.
