Baseball Recap: Kingsville Takes a Loss

Kingsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Leeton Bulldogs. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 16-1.

Gavin Mullins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 17 Ks. He has become a key player for Kingsville: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 5-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Kingsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Stout, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Brett Evinger also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Kingsville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Leeton, their victory ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-15.

As of now, neither Kingsville nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
