Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Park Mustangs vs. Shepard Astros

For the second straight game, Evergreen Park will face off against Shepard. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Astros at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Evergreen Park has four straight wins, Shepard has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Evergreen Park nor Shepard made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Astros a 4-0 shutout.

Rowan Smyth made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 18 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Robert Welcome was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

Evergreen Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Evergreen Park's victory bumped their record up to 23-9. As for Shepard, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15-2.
