Basketball Recap: Wootton Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wootton can now relate to. They lost 52-31 to Oakdale on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Oakdale are ranked 24th).

Despite the loss, Wootton still got an impressive performance from Maya Bellamy, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Bellamy's big performance that morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.

Even though they lost, Wootton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

The loss snapped Wootton's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-13 record. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 21.5 points. As for Oakdale, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-3.

Wootton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oakdale, they will face off against South River on Tuesday. South River will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Oakdale surely won't give up without a fight.
