Baseball Game Preview: Oak Hill Red Devils vs. Riverside Warriors

The Oak Hill Red Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Riverside Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Oak Hill and seven for Riverside.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Oak Hill nor Woodrow Wilson made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Red Devils fell 7-2 to the Flying Eagles.

Oak Hill saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Elswick, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Parkersburg hit Riverside with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Big Reds. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 8, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Tug Eggleton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Eggleton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Oak Hill's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.

Oak Hill was able to grind out a solid win over Riverside in their previous meeting back in March, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
