Baseball Game Preview: Evergreen Cougars vs. Standley Lake Gators

The Evergreen Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Standley Lake Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Evergreen is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Golden just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Demons.

Evergreen saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Mauro, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Standley Lake came up short against Conifer on Thursday, falling 17-2.

Evergreen's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-5-1. As for Standley Lake, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Evergreen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Standley Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Evergreen skirted past Standley Lake 10-8 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
