Basketball Recap: Gus Coutinho's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Milford over Franklin

Milford has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 66-56 to the Franklin Panthers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Scarlet Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Panthers are ranked first).

Several Scarlet Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gus Coutinho, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. Coutinho has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 16 times he's played. Matt Dasilva was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Milford's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Franklin, their victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Milford will host Oliver Ames at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Franklin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lawrence at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
