Basketball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. Laguna Beach Breakers

The University Trojans will face off against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row, University turned things around against St. Margaret's on Tuesday. They managed a 72-68 victory over the Tartans. The Trojans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

University's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Evans, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Shervin Moarrefian, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

University was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Laguna Beach's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northwood. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Monday (59), the Breakers still had to take the loss.

University will need focus on slowing down Brody Azadian, one of several Laguna Beach players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 17 points. The contest was Azadian's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Cheng, who put up 14 points.

University's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11. As for Laguna Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
