Baseball Recap: Lovington Makes It Five in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Lovington, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Eunice Cardinals on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Josiah Gauna tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Camon Ochoa, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Fidencio Lujan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Lovington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eunice only posted an OBP of .333.

Lovington pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Eunice, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-3 record.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovington will venture away from home to face off against Clovis at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Eunice, they will head out to challenge Texico at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
