Soccer Recap: Magnolia Takes a Loss

Magnolia lost against East Liverpool on Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Blue Eagles came up short against the Potters, falling 8-0. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Magnolia came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' soccer rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 71st in West Virginia, while East Liverpool are ranked 412th in Ohio).

Sophia Alexander, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Magnolia squad sat out for Wednesday's matchup. With Alexander sidelined, Magnolia had to make some big changes to the lineup. Three players hit the pitch for the first time this season: Isabel Taylor, Abby Bloom, and Brooke Dyer.

Magnolia is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10-1. As for East Liverpool, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6-2.

Looking ahead, Magnolia will look to defend their home pitch on Tuesday against Harrison Central at 6:00 p.m. Magnolia will be up against Harrison Central's rather soft defense (which has allowed 7.9 goals per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for East Liverpool, they are taking a road trip to face off against Steubenville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
