Baseball Game Preview: Depew Wildcats vs. Iroquois Redhawks

For the second straight game, Depew will face off against Iroquois. The Wildcats will face off against the Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Depew has won four straight at home, while Iroquois won five straight on the road dating back to last season), something that'll have to change.

Depew is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Iroquois just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 13-6 to the Redhawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since May 15, 2024.

For Iroquois' part, they got a great performance from Zachary Erny as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Erny has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carson Fragale was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Slade McTigue was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Iroquois kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Iroquois' win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Depew, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Depew hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Iroquois struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs.
