Preview: Yorktown Tigers vs. New Castle Trojans
The Yorktown Tigers and the New Castle Trojans will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Yorktown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Yorktown didn't have too much trouble with Delta on the road as they won 61-44. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Yorktown.
Yorktown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Grim, who scored 18 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Grim has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kieran Tewari, who scored 12 points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, New Castle earned a 49-36 win over Rushville on Saturday. Given New Castle's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Rushville is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Yorktown is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for New Castle, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.
Yorktown came up short against New Castle in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, falling 52-46. Can Yorktown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
