Preview: Kapolei Hurricanes vs. Pearl City Chargers
Kapolei is 8-1 against Pearl City since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Kapolei Hurricanes will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Pearl City Chargers at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Kapolei blew past 'Aiea, posting a 48-16 win at home. That looming 48-16 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Kapolei yet this season.
Meanwhile, Pearl City waltzed into their matchup Monday with five straight wins but they left with six. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 39-25 victory over Wai'anae.
Pearl City can attribute much of their success to Kaiesha DeWeever, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. DeWeever is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aiesha DeWeever, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Kapolei and bumps their season record up to 2-2. As for Pearl City, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Kapolei came up short against Pearl City when the teams last played back in January, falling 41-36. Can Kapolei avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
