Softball Recap: Hobart Drops Season-High Score on Merrillville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hobart). Everything went their way against the Merrillville Pirates on Monday as they made off with a 21-3 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Brickies with their most commanding win of the season.

Hobart got a great performance from Allie Snider as she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Snider a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

At the plate, Addi Gaffin was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kylie Bulatovich was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Hobart lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.

The win got Hobart back to even at 5-5. As for Merrillville, they dropped their record down to 1-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Hobart will take on Kankakee Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Merrillville, they will challenge Portage at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
