Basketball Recap: Laterrance Potter Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hillcrest over Liberty

Hillcrest's tournament run continued when they took on Liberty on Thursday. The Hillcrest Panthers fell to the Liberty Patriots 66-60. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while the Patriots are ranked 108th).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Laterrance Potter Jr, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Komarion Callahan, who posted 12 points.

Hillcrest has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Liberty, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-1.

Hillcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-41 win against El Paso on the 27th. As for Liberty, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-55 victory against Coronado on the 27th.
