Preview: Brandon Academy Scorpions vs. Tampa Prep Terrapins
Brandon Academy is 0-3 against Tampa Prep since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Brandon Academy Scorpions will be staying on the road to face off against the Tampa Prep Terrapins at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Brandon Academy posted their biggest win since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 62-42 margin over Canterbury. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-12.
Shavon Birch and Jeremiah McNeely were among the main playmakers for Brandon Academy as the former dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Birch has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Hawes, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Tampa Prep got the win against Shorecrest Prep on Friday by a conclusive 59-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Tampa Prep has posted against Shorecrest Prep since January 19, 2018.
Brandon Academy pushed their record up to 6-10 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 52.33 points. As for Tampa Prep, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-2.
Brandon Academy took a serious blow against Tampa Prep when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 74-37. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Brandon Academy was down 47-24.
