Softball Game Preview: East Nicolaus Spartans vs. Woodside Wildcats

The East Nicolaus Spartans will face off against the Woodside Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with East Nicolaus sitting on six straight wins and Woodside on three.

East Nicolaus is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Quincy a 5-0 shutout. The Spartans' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four games.

The result came thanks to Stevie Knight's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gabby Sotelo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Woodside sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Palma on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by just one run.

Hannah Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Victoria Torsh, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Lacey Barstad was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

East Nicolaus' win bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Woodside, their victory bumped their record up to 16-11.
