Softball Recap: 14 Straight Road Wins for Cascade

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cascade). They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs on Saturday. The Cadets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.

Grace Parks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Macey Pugh was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted over her last 12 games. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Padgett, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Cascade always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Franklin Community only posted an OBP of .344.

Cascade pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.1 runs this season. As for Franklin Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-6.

Looking ahead, Cascade will venture away from home to take on Edgewood at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cadets 3.4, the Mustangs 1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Franklin Community, they will be playing in front of their home fans against New Palestine at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Grizzly Cubs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
