Softball Game Preview: Oswego Panthers vs. Plainfield North Tigers

For the first time this season, Oswego will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Plainfield North Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oswego is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Oswego is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Lincoln-Way West, who was ranked 13th at the time (Oswego was ranked seventh). The Panthers came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 7-3 on Saturday.

Jaelynn Anthony spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Adalynn Fugitt was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhiana Martinez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Fugitt wasn't the only one making solid contact: Oswego kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Plainfield North lost 13-3 to Lemont on Saturday.

Oswego's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Plainfield North, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Oswego skirted past Plainfield North 2-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
