Basketball Game Preview: L.C. Bird Skyhawks vs. Powhatan Indians + Official Tickets

L.C. Bird is 8-2 against Powhatan since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Skyhawks will host the Indians at 7:30 p.m. Powhatan took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on L.C. Bird, who comes in off a win.

L.C. Bird barely beat Western Branch the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Skyhawks were the clear victors by a 60-38 margin over the Bruins on Saturday. The Skyhawks pushed the score to 48-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bruins cut but never quite recovered from.

L.C. Bird relied on the efforts of Kylie Kent, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds, and Sasha Hodge, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 17 points and five steals. Kent is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 60% in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Kamari Simon was another key player, putting up eight points.

L.C. Bird smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Powhatan came up short against Godwin on Thursday and fell 45-34.

Powhatan dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for L.C. Bird, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Everything came up roses for L.C. Bird against Powhatan when the teams last played back in February, as the team secured a 75-44 win. Will the Skyhawks repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
