Basketball Recap: Valley Piles Up the Points Against Bernalillo

Valley won the last time they faced Bernalillo and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Valley Vikings blew past the Bernalillo Spartans 64-29. That looming 64-29 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Vikings yet this season.

Valley had a senior duo take command as Christopher Melendez went 7 for 11 on his way to 18 points along with five assists and three steals and Kevin DeVargas went 5 of 8 en route to 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave DeVargas a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Luciano Mondragon, who posted six points and five assists.

Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Bernalillo, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Albuquerque Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Albuquerque Academy will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bernalillo, they are taking a road trip to take on Hope Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bernalillo is facing Hope Christian at the right time seeing as Hope Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
