Basketball Recap: Haines City Extends Winning Streak to Five

Haines City won the last time they faced Wekiva and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Haines City Hornets took down the Wekiva Mustangs 58-39. The win was nothing new for the Hornets as they're now sitting on five straight.

Haines City was led to victory by Delissa Morris and Delyana Morris. Delissa almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine assists, while Delyana posted 15 points along with eight boards and five steals. Delissa is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Howard, who had six points in addition to ten rebounds and four steals.

Haines City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Wekiva's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Senaia Asanya, who earned ten points and three steals. That's the most steals Asanya has posted since back in February of 2024. Tiana Washington was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Haines City's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.9 points per game. As for Wekiva, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haines City will welcome George Jenkins at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in George Jenkins' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. Wekiva has already played their next game (against Horizon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
