Baseball Recap: Cathedral Triumphs

Cathedral proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the University Trailblazers. The Fighting Irish haven't had any issues with the Trailblazers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Connor Christiansen made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bo Blondi, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Eli Sinsabaugh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Cathedral's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for University, they moved to 11-9 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cathedral will face off against New Palestine at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for University, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 5:30 p.m.
