Soccer Recap: Laney Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Hoggard

Laney faced Hoggard in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Buccaneers fell 4-2 to the Vikings. The loss continues a trend for Laney in their meetings with Hoggard: they've now lost six in a row.

Henry Tidey wasn't going to let Hoggard walk away unscathed as he scored both of Laney's goals, bringing his season total up to 16 goals.

Laney's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1-1 and their overall record down to 12-2-1. As for Hoggard, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1-1.

Looking ahead, Laney will head out on the road to square off against New Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hoggard, they will square off against Topsail at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoggard's defense better be ready for this one: Topsail have averaged an impressive 3 goals per game this season.
